Patterns / Poomse
Patterns, or Poomses in the Korean language, are a series of defending and attacking movements performed against imaginary opponents in a set pattern. Through the practice of forms, students come to learn the applications of various techniques of Taekwondo. Forms serve a multi-dimensional role, aiding in development and refinement of coordination, balance, timing, breath control and rhythm, all of which are essential skills to the Taekwondo student.

Pattern 8
1. From the ready stance, step forward with your left foot into a back stance, double middle guarding block.
2. Slide the left foot forward into a front stance and execute a right reverse punch
3. Execute a right front kick and a left foot jumping front kick. As you land in a left foot forward front stance execute an outside to inside forearm block. right reverse punch, left straight punch
4. Step forward into a right front stance while executing a right straight punch (kihop)
5. Turn left 270 degrees, stepping with the left foot into a right foot forward long stance AWAY from you opponent, at 45 degrees. Simultaneous right high block and left low block.
6. Slide the left foot across into a left foot forward long stance and isometrically perform an right uppercut punch.
7. Return left foot to center, turn 180 degrees and step out with the right foot into a left foot forward long stance AWAY from you opponent, at 45 degrees. Simultaneous left high block and right low block. (DO NOT cross feet like the picture.)
8. Slide the right foot across into a right foot forward long stance and isometrically perform an left uppercut punch.
9. Step 270 degrees counter-clockwise with the right foot into a left foot forward back stance, double knife-hand guarding block.
10. Slide the left foot across into a left foot forward long stance, right reverse punch.
11. Right front kick, comimg back to left foot forward back stance and quickly step back with the left foot into a right foot forward back stance, left downward palm block.
12. Bring the left foot back to center, step 90 degrees left with the left foot into a left foot forward back stance, double knife-hand block.
13. Front kick with the left (front) foot and land forward in a left foot forward long stance, right reverse punch.
14. Slide the left foot back into a back stance, left downward palm block.
15. Return left foot to center and step 180 degrees clockwise with the right foot into a right foot forward back stance, double knife-hand block.
16. Front kick with the right (front) foot and land forward in a right foot forward long stance, left reverse punch.
17. Slide the right foot back into a back stance right downward palm block.
18. Step 90 degrees right with the right foot into a right foot forward back stance double low guarding block with fists
19. Double front kick, left leg first landing in a right foot forward stance, right middle block, left reverse punch
20. Step with the left foot 270 degrees left into a left foot forward back stance, left knife hand block
21. Slide the front foot forward into a left foot forward stance right elbow strike, right backfist, left reverse punch
22. Return the left foot to center and step with the right foot 180 degrees to the right into a right foot forward back stance, right knife hand block
23. Slide the front foot into a right foot forward stance, left elbow strike, left backfist, right reverse punch
